THEN, since I'd done some of it on Photoshop Elements so I could fiddle with the brushes a specific way I couldn't in Photoshop 7, I decided to open it in 7. By the accidental slip of the mouse, I opened it in some old photo re-touching program, that 1) flattened my image, 2) saved it, and 3) closed the window so I couldn't undo it. So my many, many layers--a different one for each different color, and of each of those, one with the base color so I could re-select it and one with the shading--were all compressed into one. I screamed, literally. Then I cried, also literally. Lori's chocolate chip pancakes helped cheer me up, but I was seriously pissed.
